Punxsutawney Phil saw his shadow yesterday and predicted six more weeks of cold, gray winter. It doesn't seem like much of a reason to celebrate. For the sake of tradition, we celebrated anyway. Are you looking for something to fill the gap between New Year's and Valentine's Day? Then you, too, should observe the day of the weather-predicting rodent with some kind of festivity. I always enjoy it.
I have watched the early-90s flick "Groundhog Day" every year on February 2nd since, I don't know, 1995. I mostly have my friend Jen and her family to thank for instilling in me this sense of Groundhog tradition.This year the festivities of the day included friends, food, games, and of course a screening of the classic movie, in all its stupid hilariousness. Oh, and a new mascot, which was a random find at a little store on Mass street last week. I think he will be given away as a door prize next year, but I couldn't part with him quite yet.

I'm sad that you people out there still have 6 more weeks of winter....I hate to rub it in your face, but it was a blistering 76 degrees here in austin today. I may never leave.
also, I am LOVIN' Phil-in-a-cheesecake! what an adorable idea. If I cared about the holiday, I might use that one next year. but then again, I don't, so I probably won't! I hate that stupid, stupid, stupid movie!

I have tried to watch the movie every year, but have missed a few times. I pretty much forgot about groundhog day this year...oh well. Now I'm in the mood to watch the movie, though!

I have to say, that participating in one or two Groundhog day celebrations with you and Jen in High School, made me a little nostalgic for a celebration this year. Though, I didn't even think about that funny little rodent when the day came. I was too busy cleaning and getting ready to go snowboarding. But as a testament to his prediction, yesterday it rained, ALL DAY here in Southern Utah, and then SNOWED for most of the evening! When we went to drive home from Hurricane to St George, there was at least 3 inches of snow covering my car. Then, I saw my first snowplow on SR-9! Thanks a lot Phil!

I've never even thought to celebrate Groundhog's day...I mean it's all focused around a rodent! But it looks like you had fun with it - those are some cute ideas! And I must confess...even though the movie is more than repetative (I mean...I found myself wishing he'd actually die when jumping off the building), it did have some funny parts to it.
The title of your post made me think you actually went, with out me. That was not a happy thought.
